Cupid's Arrow

This special experience for couples introduces you to shooting the English longbow, one of history's most romantic sports. From Cupid to Robin Hood and Maid Marion, archery has a long association with romance. It was even a popular way for wealthy Victorians to meet a potential partner, as men and women took part together.

The English longbow is a tall, slender wooden bow, often very beautiful and crafted from ash, yew, or more unusual woods such as lemonwood. In this experience, you will learn to use it with wooden steel-tipped arrows, handmade in-house by our traditional fletchers.

After a safety talk and demonstration, your coach will fit you out with traditional leather armguards* and your own quiver (arrow-holder) for the afternoon.

As you discover the beauty of shooting with this traditional equipment, your coach will give you tips and advice to boost your skills and confidence. You’ll get to try your aim at a series of fun and ‘romantasy’-themed targets. Feeling mischievous? Take a shot at the Romance Forfeit Dice swinging from the ceiling - each side has a different couples-based forfeit, so draw back the string, let fly your arrow and maybe win a kiss from your partner!

The experience is held in White Dragon’s indoor archery range, which is inside a traditional oak-beamed barn, decorated in all the flowers and hearts we can stomach!

What to wear / bring

Flat shoes, layers. We know you want to look good, but make sure it’s something you can move around comfortably and be warm in.
When you shoot, you’ll lift your arms to shoulder height, so make sure your top doesn’t ride higher than you’d be comfortable with.
